At less than two months from the exciting end of season in Aspen, the FISI has confirmed the coaching staff that helped the Italian women skiers bag a whole series of medals. Remaining as Team Manager for the season due to culminate in the Olympic Games in PyeongChang 2018, will be Massimo Rinaldi, while Matteo Guadagnini will continue to occupy the position of head coach of the women’s squad, with Roberto Manzoni as physical training coordinator.
Also reconfirmed were the members of the World Cup women’s multidisciplinary skiing team, trained by Giovanni Luca Rulfi, with Marta Bassino, “Young Skier of the Year” 2016/2017 (won thanks to three seasonal medals), Federica Brignone, dominator of the giant slalom with three seasonal wins, the unlucky Elena Curtoni and Nadia Fanchini, who suffered a fracture of the ankle bone of the left leg and a fracture of the humerus of the right arm respectively and Sofia Goggia, record protagonist with 13 seasonal medals and a third place in the general ratings with a score of 1197, as well as the bronze medal in the giant slalom at the World Championships in St. Moritz. Dropping out from the multidisciplinary group on the other hand was Francesca Marsaglia, who joined the Fast Discipline team trained by Alberto Ghezze, which saw the confirmation of Nicol Delago, Elena Fanchini, Verena Gasslitter Johanna Schnarf and Verena Stuffer and where, instead, the newcomer was 19-year-old Laura Pirovano.
The World Cup Technical Disciplines group, headed by Luca Liore, was joined by Chiara Costazza. The Italian athlete will team up with Irene Curtoni, Roberta Midali, Manuela Moelgg (one medal last season in the giant slalom) Karoline Pichler and Federica Sosio.
