The Goggia phenomenon continues to storm the women’s World Cup circuit. The 24-year-old finance officer from Bergamo has finally broken the spell that until Saturday had seen her climb the podium nine times but never win. After winning Saturday’s downhill, she went on to another victory in the Super-G, on the Korean Jeongseon slope that will determine next year’s Olympic winners.

This victory was particularly sweet because, after beating second-placed Lindsey Vonn by only 0.07 seconds on Saturday, the margin this time, at 0.04 seconds, was even tighter. Not a lot, but enough to give Italy 33rd place on the podium for men and women combined, and fourth for women which, together with the many daily placements, consolidates the women’s team’s first place in the national rankings. As on the previous day, third place on the podium went to Ilka Stuhec from Slovenia, with a gap of 0.51 seconds. The Slovenian, a leader in this event, will compete against Tina Weirather (now ninth) in the finals at Aspen. The team, directed by Matteo Guadagnani, can also boast a great fourth place for Federica Brignone, and tenth place for Elena Curtoni.
