The “Young Skier of the year” is an Italian athlete called Marta Bassino. She received the prestigious acknowledgment from the International Ski Federation (FIS) during the World Cup Finals in Aspen, USA, after taking two third places in Kronplatz and Soelden at the beginning of the season, placing third today in the giant slalom in Aspen, and securing five other top-ten finishes between the giant slalom and alpine skiing combined.

The Piedmontese skier, who only recently turned 21 and is a member of the Esercito sports centre, has had an excellent season that puts her in the running to be one of the stars of international skiing for the next few years. Perhaps from the next season, which will culminate in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games.

Acknowledged alongside Bassino was Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen, who was presented with the men’s title.
