Biography

She flies over the ice gracefully, like a butterfly, because she came out of the womb with ice skates on her feet. She began her dazzling career aged four, managing to win her first international competition in 2001 at the tender age of thirteen, even though she originally thought she would become a skier like her cousin Isolde. She inherited her passion for the ice from her parents: her father Erwin was the captain of Italy’s national hockey team, and her mother Maria Patrizia is a former figure skater. After winning the bronze medal in Sochi, she became Italy’s first female individual athlete to win a historic Olympic medal in figure skating, after the medal won in 2002 in Salt Lake City by Barbara Fusar Poli and Maurizio Margaglio. Three years later - following a forced break after being disqualified for an anti-doping violation in relation to her ex-boyfriend Alex Schwazer - she achieved her tenth podium finish at the European Figure Skating Championships held in Ostrava. The highlights of her trophy case also include a gold medal from the World Championships in Nice in 2012; however, she wants to continue to impress by turning her faith into an unwavering value and skating into an indispensable statement about her way of life.
